Club Report: Did we really do all that in one year? Looking back over our programme of events, before writing this report, it was amazing to see just how much we cramm in. What a wide variety of thing we did! Members of our club enjoyed visits to Michelmersh Brickworks (and made bricks to prove it), Romsey Agricultural Machinery, Winnall Nature Reserve for pond dipping, Hursley Estate for lambing and Sowley Farm for a walk and barbeque. The most enjoyable visit had to be our evening at Longdown Activity Farm, which was kept open especially for us. Brian, the farmer, took us on an excellent guided tour and gave us a bumpy tractor ride. (I do mean bumpy!) Older members tested their Landrover driving skills and younger ones had the challenge of getting all the goat kids over the bridge! People kindly visited us to talk about antiques, bats, wildlife crime, Britains model toys, being an airline pilot, banking, farm management, stockjudging, veterinary work and hawk flying. We played rounders, went swimming, made decorations, learnt how to pluck and prepare pheasants and how to jive dance! Social activities included fireworks night, BBQ’s, games night, a Christmas meal and Summer Barn Dance at Farley Farm. If all that was not enough, members also took part in County Quiz rounds, Stockjudging, Competitions Day and the YFC Rally and Hors Show. Congratulations to our Club members who all did very well at these events and managed to carry off a good share of the prizes. Those who have read our previous Club reports will know that we have a ferret racing team and they were in action again fundraising. This year, by special invitation the ferrets put in an appearance at Crabwood Donkey Show. (That should read “Damp Donkey Show”!) It was a wet and windy day and our gazebo almost took off, but still the ferrets bravely went racing! Their efforts, our ever popular tombola stall and plate smashing at Hursley Fete combined to raise some funds for our club. Did we really do all that in one year? Yes! We did!
