Beaulieu & District Young Farmers

Club Report:

We started back after a short summer break in September with our usual business meeting to arrange an autumn/winter programme.  We had varied activities from talks on thatching to swimming at Romsey Rapids.  Our AGM soon followed with a good turnout from members, parents and helpers and a few new additions to our Advisory committee were made.

The next event for Beaulieu was the local joint ploughing match with two members competing.  Perhaps next year there will be a few more providing more competition within the club.

The year was finished with a Christmas party held a Minstead Hall; it was all a bit last minute but ran smoothly and made a profit for club funds.

Sally kindly organised some shotgun and rifle shooting courses at Sparsholt College at a greatly reduced price it was too good an opportunity to miss so we went for some professional shooting tuition.  This was attended by several members who thoroughly enjoyed themselves.

The club entered almost every class on competitions day coming away with a range of places and we had by far our best turnout in years.

The beginning or May saw most of the intermediate members make the trek to Blackpool for the National Convention.  We had an early start at 4am, picking up friends on the way with a stop for breakfast.  The Convention was by far one of the best YFC events we have been to and I think we will be attending for many years to come.

In May we turned out in force one Saturday to help set up for the Horse Show and Rally Day that is held at New Park in Brockenhurst.  With so much help from throughout the County, everything went well.  Members decided to stay over on the Saturday night and we had a barbeque, thanks to Peter White for his culinary expertise.  An enjoyable evening was had which included rabbit chasing in the dark!  Also, thanks must go to those who assisted by pulling horse lorries out of the mud on the Sunday. (We were not fortunate enough for it to stay dry all weekend!)

In the middle of August, the club held its summer camp at Dilton in the New Forest which was well attended with activities ranging from shooting to our own aerial runway and a new attraction this year, a bouncy castle.  On the Saturday night a barbeque was held for members and parents with several of the parents choosing to test out our aerial runway!

We continue to have a good turnout each Friday night with members always enthusiastically participating in everything they can, but fresh blood is always welcome.  If you have read this and like what you hear, are aged between 10 and 26 years, come along and join in!  Remember, Beaulieu Young Farmers do it in the New Forest!
