Alresford Young Farmers
Club Report: It was this time last year, I agreed to take on the responsibility of becoming one of the Alresford club leaders, helping to support Celia Foote, Sally Bowden and Jenny Outen. How quickly the year has gone with visits to places like St. Mary’s football Stadium, Basingstoke Leisure park for swimming, ice skating and 10 pin bowling, Hilliers Garden Centre and Meadow Cottage Farm ice creams. You have enjoyed other activities like clay pigeon shooting and bingo. Many of you have supported and given time to The Butterfly Conservation, Old Alresford bonfire night, Alresford show, Sparsholt open day and other events in the County. We had many interesting talks, including, Chris Gardeners talk on Falconry, accompanied by his birds of prey, RABI, Bee keeping and The Rosemary Foundation for which we raised funds by carol singing in Old Alresford. It has been great to help, encourage and support many of you, maybe some of you slightly reluctantly at first, to take part in many of the County competitions, quiz evenings and sporting events, some going onto SEA and National. How well did we do?, I name a few:- Winning Mixed doubles in Badminton (Rachel/Steve), The intermediate Brainstrust (Sam, Simon, Sarah & Nikki), County Junior quiz coming 2nd, Hockey, beating Bishops Waltham and coming 3rd in SEA, well done all the girls as they played their last match in a mini blizzard. It was good to see so many Alresford members being placed at the Competitions Day, County Rally and stockjudging, congratulations to Sarah Bowden who won SEA stock judging and went onto the Nationals for a second year. As a result, we came away with various shields and trophies , well done everyone who took part, the club is proud of you. Now that many of us have taken part for the first time, lets continue, with the support and advice of the older, more experienced club members who have been participating in competitions for some years, to do as well or if not better than this year, not forgetting to encourage any new members to have a go. It’s all good fun You have also helped support other clubs, especially by attending their parties, difficult job sometimes, but I’m sure you have all enjoyed yourselves!. Thank you also to our resigning President, Paul Moffat, and the Advisory committee for their help, advice and support over the last year. Special thanks go to Nikki and Rob Parfoot-Gray for their commitment and help to the club and all the other parents who have been so generous in giving up their time throughout the year to run their children and other members about for various visits and events, it is greatly appreciated. Finally, I would like to thank, Celia, Sally, Jenny and Sally Bucknole for their continuing support that they have given to me over the year and their confidence in my ability to help maintain the good work already put in place by themselves to which, Alresford Young Farmers’ can be proud of. Lets all continue to work together as a team to achieve the best we can.
