South East Hants YFC Club Report:

2007/2008 has been a successful but testing time for South East Hants YFC. We have become victims of our own success, whether it be in competitions or in the general running of the club. When no secretary was appointed a lot of the responsibility was put upon myself and committee members to keep the club running to the high standards that the members have come to expect.

Unfortunately, I believe some of these standards may have dropped slightly, mainly due to people struggling to give up the time needed to keep these high standards. Despite my many appeals to club members for suggestions or support to club meetings, I was not able to deliver the action packed programmes I was planning during my year as Chairman

The club has been very successful in County competitions and the stack of certificates shows how talented members of the club are, whether it be in the arts and crafts sections or showing brute strength in the tug of war. The junior members have done themselves proud in many of the competitions and cleaned up again in the speaking competitions.

I feel that during the last twelve months, more and more members have been able to gain greater experience in the processes of YFC and the organisation behind the scenes, either at club or county levels. This can only be good news for the next generation of club officers and club representatives.

For me, taking on the chairmanship after only 10 months in YFC was a massive learning curve. I have had some massive highs but also some huge lows, but I have learnt so much in this last 12 months. I have really enjoyed this last year, so much in fact that standing down feels like a real disappointment. The highlight of the year for me came when the Silvester’s gazebo was erected at the QECP show ground and the club was able to show the public what YFC has to offer young people. Hopefully next year we can show off even more, and put an even better display on.
