Romsey YFC Club Report:

Despite an unfortunate start, Romsey young farmers have had a busy year.  We have managed to recruit four new members, who have brought new ideas into the club.

In October a quiz was organised by Gemma Shutler at the Mill Arms in Dunbridge.  Teams from all over the county took part. Brian, the quiz master, chose to donate the £320 raised to Naomi House.  A fun evening was had by all and a team from Romsey won (not a fix)!

November saw the County Dance, which was held at the Rose Bowl in Southampton. Nearly all of Romsey attended, in their DJ’s and posh frocks. Everyone enjoyed the evening, as usual!

December brought out the musical, and the not quite so musical, of us as we took part in our annual carol singing. We started at Dunbridge Manor Nursing Home and sang for the residents, we then went on to Wellow Golf Club and sang for Jean and John Bell and their guests. Every one enjoyed themselves, especially those who had a few drinks along the way!  We raised £375, which Jean requested be donated to the Abbey Mead Surgery.

Our Christmas party was also great success with an attendance of over 70.

In February we took part in our annual dung drop. We met on a Wednesday night and filled nearly 300 bags!! The following Saturday the dung was delivered all around Romsey. Thanks to sat-nav, we did not have too much trouble finding addresses.  I would like to thank Mr David Hunt for donating the dung. We managed to raise a massive £700, of which £600 was donated to the Honeypot charity and £100 was given to Nozzer for the charity work he has been involved in, in the Philippines.

The club entered the Call My Bluff competitions held at Sparsholt.  On the same night Dave Cook won Junior Hampshire Young Farmer of the Year!

In March Jess organised a trip to Ringwood Brewery, to which we invited the rest of the county. We were given a tour of the brewery and then had a free half an hour in the bar; unsurprisingly most of us took advantage of this!  We finished the evening with a ploughman’s supper.

This year we decided to hold an Easter party. The theme was Bond and Bunnies.  Jenny Saxton won best bunny costume and Dave Cook won best Bond.  We had an attendance of around 80 people from all around the county.  We raised £350 for club funds.

Jim Hordle organised a talk from one of Hampshire’s Police dog handlers.  It was an interesting evening but Rocky, a big German Shepherd, took a bit of a disliking to Jack and was put back in the car!

In April we had talk from Tadpole Hypnotherapy, joined by Wellow Growmore.

I would like to finish by thanking Jess Kitcher for all her hard work as secretary and Hannah Kitcher, for carrying out the role of club treasurer.  I would also like to thank Jeff Kemish, our club leader and Alan Cook for his support as club President.  Finally I would like to wish the club every success for next year.
