Bishops Waltham YFC Club Report:
This
has been a quiet year for Bishops Waltham Club, but we have entered most of the
County Competitions. This includes
Skittles, Badminton, Senior Pub Quiz, Public Speaking, Hockey, Netball,
Football, Rally Day and Stockjudging Competitions.
The
highlight of the year was the Football and Netball National Finals which we won
at County and South East Area levels to get qualification. Members joined with some members from
Alresford and South East Hants for the South East Area eliminations in Kent and
then again in Stafford. Although it was
2 very tiring days it was a good County spirit and we did very well in the
Finals although we did not win. This was
a good achievement for Hampshire and I hope that we will be able to “get
Hampshire on the map” more often.
We
hosted our Annual Pool Competitions in February and this was well attended and
was an enjoyable evening. Our Annual
Dinner Dance was held in March at East Horton Golf Club. The change of venue went down well and I
believe that everyone had a good evening.
During
the year the Club has had some Meetings which included Dog Grooming, Stock
Judging evening, Christmas decoration making, a talk on driving awareness from
the DCLA. Members enjoyed our annual
Christmas meal at The Farmers Home, as well as many other Club events
throughout the County.
This
year we participated in the Durley Carnival to help raise Club funds. This was a great success and our “Pluck a
Duck”, “Wine or Water”, Cake Stall and Dog Show were very well received, and
raised more money than expected for the Club.
We
held our 2nd Fashion Show this year and although we did not raise
quite so much as the previous year, it was still a great fund raiser. It is hoped that an event arranged for next
year will be as popular.
Unfortunately
during the year we saddened to hear of the death of Miss Jean Wilkinson, one of
our long-standing Club Vice Presidents.
Miss Wilkinson has been involved with the Bishops Waltham Club for many
years and has always supported us whenever she could. The Club sent our condolences along with a
donation to RABI, her chosen charity.
I
would like to thank all the Club Officers this year, especially Sarah Hodgett
our Secretary who has done a great job this year (even winning the Best
Secretary award). Well done Sarah. Although I am standing down as Club Chairman
I wish the Club all the best for the next year.
