Avon Valley YFC Club Report:
We
started the year with our annual traditional harvest supper with the members
working hard to serve all of the hungry guests.
The night went down really well with the members collecting their
trophies and certificates that they all worked hard throughout the year to win.
The
charity of choice for the year was the riding for the disabled; to raise money
for the charity we held several events throughout the year to raise money. The
first event we held was the Christmas Bingo, where we raised around £100 for
the charity. This was closely followed by our annual carol singing, held a few
days before Christmas to help everyone get into the Christmas spirit. The carol
singing went down really well raising around £150 through a raffle and donations
made on the night.
Throughout
the year the club has had many successes, first of all being the winning of the
junior quiz for the third year in a row. Well done team! We then took part in
the stockjudging and again won the junior stockjudging shield with some very
strong individual scores as well, resulting in lots of first, second and third
places, what an achievement for the junior members. The club also took part in
lots of competitions at competition day, along with lots of entries at rally day,
with a good lot of results on the day.
Throughout
the year the club has been busy. We have had lots of visits and talks, one of
the visits, being to Dan Tanners deer safari in Burley. He kindly followed with
a BBQ, allowing us to sample some of his seasonal BBQ veg, being asparagus in
early June. It was a really good evening around the camp fire although we got
eaten alive by the midges. Another visit
we had was to a cheese farm, with a tour. Members were able to sample some
locally made cheese. Unfortunately due to the very wet summer we experienced
this year we were unable to hold most of our summer programme.
To
raise money for the club we held our annual Barn Dance, which this year was
held jointly with The New Forest Hounds. The evening was enjoyable, with a Hog
roast, Bucking Bronco and Live band. The evening was a success raising around
£1000 between the two organisations.
To
finish off the year we took part in Ringwood carnival, with our own float this
year the theme being Avon valley Doctors and Nurses. It is always fun taking
part in the carnival and I think that this year was no exception, and at the
same time we get to help raise money for local charities.
I
would like to thank our club President, The Honourable Lord J H R Manners, for
all his help and dedication to the club over the past 10 years as president, as
he will be handing over the job of President at the 61st A.G.M.
On behalf of all of the members of Avon Valley YFC I would like to thank
everyone that has helped and supported the club over the past year.
