Alresford YFC Club Report:
Alresford
YFC have had an extremely busy year and in the process membership has
increased.
The
programme has been extremely full and meetings at The Christy Hall, Old
Alresford have included talks by the Animal Hampshire Fire and Rescue team,
Salsa dancing, the ever popular cake decorating competition, Christmas card
making and the Bluetongue Vaccine by Vetmedica to name but a few. We have been out to dairy, beef, sheep and
pig farms in preparation for the rather cold and snowy stockjudging day. We went climbing at Lasham Woodlands which
was great fun even though very wet, (well it was a summer evening in July!) and
then rounder’s with South East Hants YFC.
We
have donated money to charity, including Marie Curie Cancer Care, and we built
a polytunnel one evening at the Boaz Charity, Hill Farm, Sutton Scotney which
will be used to grow vegetables by the charity’s members – young people with
severe learning disabilities in the local area.
We
had our annual Valentine’s party which was very well attended by other clubs
and their inflatable friends........ and we have been to lots of fancy dress
parties at other clubs. Sam seems to be
very at ease in his feminine costumes!
He always did like dresses. Mind
you, I think Simon Bucknole’s pink fluffy leg warmers and pink wig took the
biscuit at the Romsey pink party and prompted comments such as “what does she
look like?”
A
group of us attended the AGM in Blackpool which was a superb weekend. We’ve been up to events in Shropshire and
Worcestershire and some of the Alresford girlies are preparing for a weekend in
Staffordshire as I write at the netball finals with Bishops Waltham. I say preparing. It consists of what colour to wear and
“skirts or shorts girls?”!
Thanks
must go to our wonderful club leaders who are at everything and always
supportive. They are also amazingly open
minded and will wholeheartedly join in with our crazy ideas – I’m particularly
thinking over the years I have been involved.......the Christmas entertainments,
paintballing, the Gypsies, Tramps and Thieves party, Julius Caesar the play,
Morris dancing, Steff and Emma doing the ketchup song at South East Area?,
gliding at Lasham, Rumpelstiltskin the panto, Raft Racing down the Kennet and
Avon canal, the Inflatable’s party, The Red Barrow Display Team, Salsa dancing,
building polytunnels.......
Signing
off I have had a great year and was very proud to be Chairman of Alresford
Young Farmers Club. Thanks to you all! x
